Give your career a new Boost!

At a certain moment everybody feels that his / her career gets stuck. This can be related to various factors. In most cases people still like their job, but one has the feeling less progression is made or goals are not met. As soon as one gets this feeling it is of utmost importance to give a new fresh boost to ones career. You should make sure you do not get bored in a job, by stimulating one selves and others. Below you find to tips to give a new boost to your career.

 

Tip 1: Daily set goals

As soon as you think you have achieved everything in your current job or career, you should set new goals. These goals must be challenging, but also feasible. In case you set goals which are not feasible you might get disappointed in the end. By setting goals you are stimulating yourself and others around you. You should set long-term as well as short-term goals. Daily you should try to meet targets. As soon as you have met a target you should reward yourself. As soon as you plan your career development, take the time to get to know yourself (e.g. by participating in Career assessments) and assess your skills, strengths, weaknesses and your most important preferences. Ask yourself whether you like what you do and what it is you like and dislike about your job and career. Sometimes, a complete career change may be in order if your likes, dislikes, competencies and aspirations push you in a different direction.

 

Tip 2: Consult your network, Improve your relations

One should always try to be ahead of other persons in the company. You should read magazines and articles in order to stay up-to-date. You should be the persons “who always knows everything”. As soon as you have reached that status your job becomes more interesting and it is likely one will give you your promotion fast(er). Create an extensive network of people around you, in all kind of areas. As soon as you need someone for advice or in case you want to change your position you should now people in all areas. Make sure one also knows you. In the long run, your relationships are as important as your skills so nurture your contacts, cultivate them and extend a helping hand and a listening ear whenever you can. In case your network is extensive and your contacts are good, you will have few problems in giving a new boost to your career.

 

Tip 3: Communicate as good as possible, improve your communication if needed

Communication is the key-word for giving a good boost to your career. By communicating properly you will be able to pick up important issues in an early stage and besides you might hear new ideas which can be implemented (by you). Besides you hear criticism in an early stage. Listen to the critics and deal with it. Turn it into an advantage.

 

Tip 4: Go back to school, start up a training, learn new skills

As soon as you have the feeling you are fully stuck in a career you can always decide to pick up a training. You should continuously ask yourself the question: Are my skills good or do I lack skills? As soon as you have the feeling you lack certain skills you must deal with it. Go to your boss and ask him / her if it is possible to follow some education. In the end one will appreciate this attitude. Your aim should always be to know more than others. Stay ahead of colleagues and try to be the best. In case you feel your career is fully on the wrong track you might have to decide to choose for a training or school which moves your career in a completely different direction.
